I think a way to artificially create oil for fuels.
Being a big problem at the moment, it would fit. They say the ‘necessity is the mother of invention’.

2011?
The VE series (09-10) already has all these features..
Not only that but sony is falling so far behind samsung and LG in the LCD market that maybe sony should push more for a better looking panel instead of a more efficient panel!
